BSc. PSYCHOLOGY

At the end of three year Bsc-Psychology programme, the students will be able to:-

  • PO 1- Historical and Foundational Knowledge: Understanding of the history and origin of psychology as subject and its development as a science.
  • PO 2- Strong Theoretical Knowledge: Attain a strong theoretical foundation in the areas of cognitive psychology, social psychology, biophysiology, neurophysiology and organisational psychology. Students develop the critical mind to apply these theories and concepts in appropriate real-life situations.
  • PO 3- Research Background: Students acquire adequate knowledge in the area of psychological research and statistical analysis which enables them to get started with writing academic research papers.
  • PO 4- Expertise in Practical skills: Students attain practical knowledge in conducting psychological assessments and experiments that are essential during their future occupational spheres as psychologists.
  • PO 5- Problem Solving and Knowledge Application: Ability to apply learned psychological theories and concepts in problem situations and efficiently derive solutions.
  • PO 6- Creating awareness and ethical mindedness: Attain professional skills necessary for working as a team to create awareness about mental health and develop an empathetic, ethical mind towards people in need.
  • PO 7- Employability and Skill development: Attain skills including communication skills, psychological software, working in groups and organizing events which ensure the competitive skill set essential for employability and higher education.

At the end of Bsc-Psychology programme the students will be capable of managing all the activities of an organization:-

  • PSO 1- Understand the management functions and its application.
  • PSO 2- Practice various accounting, statistical and mathematical tools for problem solving and decision making.
  • PSO 3- Practice analytical skills and critical thinking abilities.
  • PSO 4- Develop entrepreneurial skills and knowledge.
  • PSO 5-Acquire required personality traits for future career.
  • PSO 6- Understand business ethics and CSR of the organization.       
  • PSO 7- Build up Global perspective.

After completing each course under three year B.Sc Psychology programme the students will be able :-

SEMESTER 1

  • COMMON COURSE I- PAPER I (ENGLISH) FINE TUNE YOUR ENGLISH

    • CO1- Confidently use English in both written and spoken forms.
    • CO2- Use English for formal communication effectively.
    • CO3- Recognize the terms and concepts of elementary grammar.
    • CO4- Analyse the situation where different grammatical units are used.
    • CO5- Identify the principles of language.
    • CO5- Contrast and determine the different usages with a grasp of their applications.
    • CO5- Outline the methods of using various levels of languages for conversation, documenting, speaking, and other forms of communication and correspondence..

  • COMMON COURSE I- PAPER II (ENGLISH) PEARLS FROM THE DEEP

    • CO1 - Appreciate and enjoy works of literature. .
    • CO2 - Appreciate the aesthetic and structural elements of literature.

  • COMMON COURSE II- PAPER I (ADDITIONAL LANGUAGE) MALAYALAM

    • CO1 - സാമാന്യമായ സാഹിത്യപരിചയവും വായനാഭിരുചിയും കാവ്യാസ്വാദനശേഷിയും വളർത്തിയെടുക്കുക.
    • CO2 -മലയാള കഥാസഹിത്യത്തിൽ സംഭവിക്കുന്ന ഭാവുകത്വപരിണാമങ്ങൾ തിരിച്ചറിയുക .

    • CO1 - To generate interest in psychology.
    • CO2 - To understand the basics of various perspectives in psychology.
    • CO3 - To appreciate the psychological processes behind behavior.
    • CO4 - To develop critical thinking ability of students.

  • BODY SYSTEMS AND BEHAVIOUR

    • CO1 - To understand the biological foundations of behaviour.
    • CO2 -To understand auditory system and visual system.
    • CO3 -To develop knowledge in cardiovascular system and its working.
    • CO4 -To comprehend physiological basis of emotionality.

  • BASIC STATISTICS

    • CO1 - To inculcate in students the need and importance of statistics in Psychology.
    • CO2 -To get them equipped with different statistical presentation of data.
    • CO3 -To understand the basis of measures of central tendency.

SEMESTER 3

  • COMMON COURSE I- PAPER V (ENGLISH) LITERATURE AND/AS IDENTITY

    • CO2 - The fissures, the tensions and the interstices present in South Asian regional identities.
    • CO3 - The emergence of Life Writing and alternate/alternative/marginal identities.

  • COMMON COURSE II- PAPER III (ADDITIONAL LANGUAGE) MALAYALAM

  • NEUROPHYSIOLOGY OF BEHAVIOUR

    • CO1:To help students understand brain behavior relationship
    • CO2: To understand the concepts of nervous system and communication within a neuron and neurotransmitter
    • CO3: To understand the physiology of the hemispheres of neocortex
    • CO4: To understand the anatomy of central nervous system.

  • STATISTICAL METHODS AND ELEMENTARY PROBABILITY

    • CO1:Demonstrate knowledge of the properties of probability

    • CO3:Demonstrate knowledge of binomial distribution.

  • PSYCHOLOGY PRACTICALS-I

    • CO1 - To introduce the basic concepts of experimental psychology.
    • CO2 - To facilitate comprehension of the theoretical concepts through experiments.

    • CO3 - To provide basic training in planning and conducting experiments.

SEMESTER 4

  • COMMON COURSE I- PAPER VI (ENGLISH) ILLUMINATIONS

    • CO1: Recall the famous works of the pioneers of literature which they have already studied. Hence they will realize the need of a literary representation of the so called genre.
    • CO2: Locate various works they have come across under specific genre of writing
    • CO3: Identify the effect of literary works which impart the pleasure of learning a different culture and class
    • CO4: Explain the life and experiences of those writers which is influential among the readers
    • CO5: Compare and analyze the genres of literature they have learned or read so far.

  • COMMON COURSE II- PAPER IV (ADDITIONAL LANGUAGE) MALAYALAM

    • CO1 - മലയാള ഗദ്യത്തിന്റെ ശക്തിയും സാധ്യതയും മനസ്സിലാക്കാൻ പര്യാപ്തമായ ലേഖനങ്ങളാണ് ഇവിടെ പഠനവിഷയം. ഒപ്പം ഓർമ്മക്കുറിപ്പുകളിലൂടെ എഴുത്തുകാരെയും എഴുത്തുകാരെ രൂപപ്പെടുത്തിയ സമൂഹത്തെയും തിരിച്ചറിയുന്നത് എങ്ങനെയെന്ന് മനസ്സിലാക്കാൻ സാധിക്കുന്നു.

  • STATISTICAL INFERENCE

    • CO1: Develop an understanding of hypothesis and related concepts.

    • CO1 : To study experimentally the sensory experience and perceptual processes.

SEMESTER 5

  • ABNORMAL PSYCHOLOGY

    • CO1: To acquaint with the history and meaning of abnormal behaviour
    • CO2: To develop awareness about classification systems
    • CO3: To acquaint with the basic minor and major disorders
    • CO4: To have an understanding regarding the causal patterns and treatment of disorders.

  • FOUNDATIONS OF ORGANIZATIONAL BEHAVIOR

    • CO1 - To familiarize and learn concept of human organizations and behavior in organizations..
    • CO2 - To introduce topics like Leadership, Motivation, Power, Conflict, Negotiation, in organizations.
    • CO3 - To learn strategies to Manage organizations more effectively.

  • ENVIRONMENTAL PSYCHOLOGY AND HUMAN RIGHTS

    • CO1 -To encourage students to do research, investigate how and why things happen, and make their own decisions about complex environmental issues by developing and enhancing critical and creative thinking skills. It helps to foster a new generation of informed consumers, workers, as well as policy or decision makers.
    • CO2 - To help students understand how their decisions and actions affect the environment, build knowledge and skills necessary to address complex environmental issues, as well as ways to take action that can keep our environment healthy and sustainable for the future. It encourages character building, and develop positive attitudes and values. .
    • CO3 - To develop a sense of awareness among the students about the environment and its various problems and to help the students in realizing the interrelationship between man and the environment and helps to protect the nature and natural resources..
